17.11 Inconsistent assessments and excessive reductions
The Working Party recognizes that steps should be taken to minimise the risk of
inconsistency and excessive reductions resulting from summary assessments of costs.
It agrees in principle with the comment made by the Editors of the White Book that :-
"Solicitors are not required to conduct litigation at rates which are uneconomic. Thus in a
modest claim the proportion of costs is likely to be higher than in a large claim and may even
equal or possibly exceed the amount in dispute."
